Pope Leo XIV Canonized the First Millennial Saint

The faithful Catholics have two new saints this September 7, in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV presided over the Mass with the canonization rite of the Blessed Carlo Acutis, known as the saint of the internet or the first millennial saint, and also Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati.

About 80,000 faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. It stood out in this ceremony that relatives of both saints attended.

Regarding Saint Carlo Acutis, Pope Leo XIV said that the young man found Jesus in his family, thanks to his parents, Andrés and Antonia, and later at school as well, and above all in the sacraments celebrated in the parish community.

“In this way, he grew up naturally integrating in his days as a child and as a teenager prayer, sport, study, and charity,” said the Pontiff.

When referring to Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, the Holy Father acknowledged that he “found the Lord through school and ecclesial groups and bore witness to it through his joy of living and being a Christian in prayer.”

Saint Carlo Acutis was a young man who used the internet to evangelize. Through his computer he documented Eucharistic miracles and the apparitions of the Virgin. Two miracles were taken into account for his canonization.

The first was when the boy Matheus Vianna who suffered from a pancreatic illness was cured inexplicably after touching a relic of Carlo in 2013; this paved the way for his beatification.

The second miracle was the healing of Valeria Valverde of Costa Rica after a serious bicycle accident in Florence, Italy. This miracle was recognized by Pope Francis in 2024. Now Saint Carlo Acutis has a church named after him in Brazil, becoming the first church dedicated to this new saint.
