Louisiana. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) condemned an attack on a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Tullos, after Maximiliano Pérez-Pérez, an undocumented immigrant, brutally bit the officer’s hand as he resisted arrest. The immigrant faces charges of assault on law enforcement officers.
During the arrest, Pérez-Pérez attempted to flee by pushing the officers. He used his teeth as a weapon and tightly gripped the hand of an ICE officer, cutting the skin and causing it to bleed.
Pérez-Pérez entered the United States on an unknown date and time, without being screened or released on parole by an immigration officer.
“This illegal immigrant is a criminal who is being charged with assault for brutally biting a law enforcement officer in an attempt to evade arrest. DHS law enforcement officers are facing a 1,150% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats. This is the reality that our ICE officers face daily as they work,” said Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
