The Oscar-nominated Mexican actress Adriana Barraza leads the cast of ViX’s new series titled “A Complicated Family.” This is a story set in the city of Orizaba in the Mexican state; the story follows the “Navarro family,” for whom prestige and appearances are everything. However, after the sudden death of the family leader, the façade of perfection begins to fracture.
Barraza says that with the diversity of characters in the plot, many viewers will identify with some characteristics of these; she even asserts that this will be a fun part of watching the series.
In addition to the legendary Adriana Barraza, the cast is made up of a long list of showbiz stars such as Marcus Ornellas, Oka Giner, Marco Treviño and Alberto Estrella, to name a few.
Barraza’s presence definitely enhances this project; her career in television and film has earned her awards and nominations that have made her a benchmark in acting. She is one of seven Mexican actresses nominated for the coveted Oscar, which has distinguished her in the film industry.
With the professionalism that characterizes her, she prepares each of her characters, and “Doña Telma” in “A Complicated Family” also has a heavy workload to shoulder.
“I always try to make my characters as true as possible; sometimes it’s very hard. I have always said that what I do is very difficult for me, which is why I study a lot and try to understand the character to deliver a dignified performance and understand why it is written that way, and in this case it was no different,” she shared.
“The scripts were very well written, and all these things that production gives us as actors are things that feed us to create dignified characters, very much in line with the tone and genre that the story has so that the audience is entertained, whether by crying, laughing or thinking, but that they are entertained,” she added.
The series premiered on ViX on June 26; the twenty episodes are already available, and for Barraza bringing a bit of Mexico to Latino viewers is something that fills her with joy.
“Our work is always for those who watch us, that is why we work. I have lived a long time outside my country and thinking that somewhere, anywhere, someone in the world will say ‘they’re bringing me what I want’, whether for any reason, even nostalgia, is very beautiful. It is for everyone who watches us, wherever they are; here is this Mexican family for them. It will be a true experience,” she concluded.
