Gina Hinojosa has been elected governor of the state of Texas, defeating Greg Abbott, a strong opponent.
Gina is the first Democrat and the first woman to be elected to this position in more than 30 years. Additionally, she is the first Hispanic to hold this office.
“Texas, my faith in you has never faded. I already spoke with Governor Abbott; he called to congratulate me and offered to assist me in the transition of power. I want to thank him for his years of service to this great state of Texas,” Hinojosa said in her speech.
“I am the daughter of the Texas Rio Grande Valley. I am a mother who loves her children, who believes in teachers, and believes in Texas public schools,” she added.
Abbott has already delivered his speech acknowledging his defeat and assured that he will help with the transition of power in the state. He closed his remarks by saying that he loves Texas and that the state is better now than when he took office.
