Lina Hidalgo Won’t Resign: Board of Commissioners’ Ruling

On March 10, Lina Hidalgo, the Harris County judge, stated that she had been mistreated and removed from the Megan Moroney concert that night at NRG Stadium, as part of the Houston Rodeo festivities.

Since that day, Hidalgo and the Houston Rodeo organizers have provided their version of events through social media posts and official statements.

By March 31, Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey sought to move forward a motion that would demand Hidalgo’s resignation, citing what he described as “an arrogant conduct” during the incident.

Hidalgo did not attend the Commissioners Court session at which the resolution was discussed.

Ramsey asserted that “the judge’s display of superiority has brought shame to this Commissioners Court.”

Meanwhile, commissioners Lesley Briones and Rodney Ellis voted to strike the portion of the proposal that would require Hidalgo’s resignation.

Although both acknowledged that accountability is warranted and Hidalgo must answer for what happened, they argued that the decision on her future lies with the voters. As of now, Hidalgo has not issued any public response to the board, and it appears these months will constitute the final stretch of her term since she has said she will not seek reelection in 2026.
