Among the effects of the United States’ war against Iran are not only the high costs of gasoline; it is anticipated that motor oil prices could rise because that conflict is interrupting the supply of base oils used in many synthetic motor oils, industry experts warn.
Currently, these base oils are stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, which could lead to higher prices and reduced availability of options for some high-end synthetic products.
At the moment, this is not a nationwide motor oil shortage situation. Nissan reported that it had issued a bulletin warning about possible motor oil shortages, but confirmed that the bulletin has since been withdrawn.
The company says that, as of today, the situation is stable; however, this could change rapidly, given that the scenario remains volatile.
