Where to Donate in Houston and Katy for Venezuelan Earthquake Victims

Donation centers in Houston, Katy, Friendswood, and Dickinson receive clothing, bottled water, non-perishable food, medications, hygiene products, and flashlights over the weekend.

The Venezuelan community in the Houston area activated several collection centers to gather aid for people affected by the earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela.

The collection sites are located in Houston, Katy, Friendswood, and Dickinson. The centers will accept clothing, bottled water, non-perishable food, medications, personal hygiene products, and flashlights over the weekend.

The earthquakes occurred on the night of Wednesday, June 24, and left serious damage in Caracas, La Guaira, and other northern states of Venezuela. The latest international tallies report at least 188 dead, more than 1,500 injured, around 250 buildings damaged, and roughly 200 people trapped under debris.

Local aid focuses on food, water and basic items

Donations gathered in the Houston area aim to support families who lost housing, access to basic services, or essential items after the earthquakes.

The collection centers accept clothing in good condition, bottled water, non-perishable foods, medications, personal hygiene products, and flashlights. Some sites have specific daytime hours, while others will accept donations through the evening.

La Mora, in Katy, plans to ship the items collected to Venezuela on Monday, June 29. Other Venezuelan businesses and food trucks are also participating as drop-off points over the weekend.

Organizations accept financial support for the emergency

People who cannot deliver items in person also have options to support financially through organizations participating in humanitarian response.

Among the organizations identified to receive contributions are I Love Venezuela Foundation, Global Empowerment Mission, and International Rescue Committee.

Global Empowerment Mission works with I Love Venezuela on the emergency response and mobilizes teams to assess needs, coordinate with local partners, and begin operations in the affected areas.

Direct Relief also maintains communication with local and regional organizations about medical needs, including wound care materials, surgical supplies, antibiotics, and medical kits for first responders.

The emergency remains active in Venezuela

The two main earthquakes had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, and occurred with a short time gap in northern Venezuela. The affected areas report collapsed buildings, infrastructure damage, service disruptions, and displaced families.

The international response includes search-and-rescue teams, medical supplies, logistical support, humanitarian aid, and coordination with organizations working on the ground.

In the Houston area, the donation centers will continue to receive assistance over the weekend. La Mora, in Katy, keeps Monday, June 29 as the planned date to send the collected donations to Venezuela.
