The FIFA Fan Festival in Houston is drawing thousands of people to East Downtown, so attendees should plan ahead for parking, where to walk, and what transportation to use to reach the event.
The festival takes place near Shell Energy Stadium, in the EaDo area, and has public entrances on Polk Street and Walker Street. The area can experience heavy traffic during game days, especially when teams with strong local support play.
The organizing committee of Houston 2026 recommends visitors check routes before leaving, reserve parking whenever possible, and consider METRORail or rideshare to avoid driving near the entrances.
There are more than 90,000 public parking spaces near the festival
According to the Houston 2026 committee, there are more than 90,000 public parking spaces within a three-mile radius of the FIFA Fan Festival.
The area includes multi-story garages in downtown Houston, private lots around the festival perimeter, and parking near the East Downtown area. There are also more than 10 privately owned public-use lots in the surrounding areas.
Organizers recommend reserving a space before departing. Parking searches can be done via DowntownHouston.org, where drivers can review available options near the event.
As the festival can draw crowds throughout the day, driving without a plan can mean more time in traffic, walking more than expected, or ending up in farther lots.
The Via Fútbol route connects Discovery Green with Walker Street
For those parking in downtown, Houston 2026 recommends the Via Fútbol pedestrian route.
The route follows Rusk Street from the Discovery Green area to the north entrance of the FIFA Fan Festival, located on Walker Street. The walk takes about 12 minutes.
The route features signage, shaded structures, safety improvements, and ADA access, according to the event’s official information.
On days when the Houston Astros do not have home games, attendees can also park in Lot C and walk toward Rusk Street to connect with the pedestrian route.
Public entrances are on Polk Street and Walker Street
The FIFA Fan Festival has two public entrances.
One entrance is on Polk Street. The other is on Walker Street, next to Shell Energy Stadium.
Attendees will be directed to one or the other entrance depending on where they arrive from, whether parking, public transit, rideshare, or pedestrian routes. Signage and public safety personnel will help guide visitors to the appropriate access points.
The festival has limited capacity, so arriving at an entrance does not guarantee immediate access if the site reaches its attendance limit. On the World Cup’s first day, the Fan Fest reached its capacity of 7,500 people before the Mexico vs. South Africa match.
METRORail connects to EaDo/Stadium station
METRO recommends using public transportation to avoid traffic during World Cup events in Houston.
Those going to the Fan Festival can take the Green or Purple lines of METRORail and alight at the EaDo/Stadium station, beside Shell Energy Stadium. From that station, the walk to the north entrance on Walker Street takes about five minutes.
Users traveling from the Red line can transfer at Central Station to board the Green or Purple lines toward EaDo.
The regular fare for a METRORail trip is $1.25. METRO also indicates there will be additional service and higher-frequency routes during the World Cup period in Houston.
Rideshare will have a designated pickup/drop-off point on Leeland Street
People using Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare services will have a designated pickup and drop-off point.
The rideshare area is located at 2011 Leeland St., near Leeland Street and St. Emanuel Street.
From that point, the walk to the festival’s south entrance on Polk Street takes about seven minutes.
Using the designated point can help reduce confusion, avoid closures near the event, and make it easier for drivers to pick up or drop off passengers without entering the most congested zones.
The Fan Fest opens before the first match of the day
The FIFA Fan Festival Houston opens 90 minutes before the first scheduled match each day of activity.
Schedules may change according to the World Cup calendar, so attendees should check the official page before leaving. The event will be active during match days and will not open on the tournament’s official rest days.
Entrance to the festival is free, but access depends on available capacity. If the venue fills up, organizers may temporarily close entry.
Arriving early to parking can avoid lines and traffic
Attendees should consider the heat, the walk from the parking, the entrance lines, and traffic around East Downtown.
It is also advisable to bring water according to the event’s rules, wear light clothing, check the forecast, and locate cooling stations upon entry.
Those traveling in a group should agree on a meeting point before arrival. Families with children, older adults, or visitors who do not know the area should review in advance where to park, which entrance to use, and how to return to the vehicle or to the rideshare point.
The FIFA Fan Festival Houston will continue throughout the World Cup, with free admission, entrances on Polk and Walker, a pedestrian route along Rusk Street, METRORail connection, and parking options around downtown and East Downtown.
