June in Houston: A Month Like No Other

June begins, and with it we reach the midpoint of 2026. It seems we barely raised our glasses to toast the arrival of the new year, and we brace ourselves to face the next twelve months. Now we are at the halfway point as if nothing, the first six months have passed.

Surely these have been years with many challenges for some and achievements for others, or perhaps half and half, as we commonly say. The important thing is that we are here at the halfway point and now we are waiting to see what the next six months of this year will bring. I don’t know if it’s mental or if everyone feels it, but the last six months go by too quickly given how much we have to do and accomplish.

Returning to the start of June, this is a month of many emotions; here in Houston, for example, we eagerly await the start of the FIFA World Cup, whose first game in our city is on the 14th. Still, the football festival starts from the 11th because, by the time the matches aren’t played here, we have the festival that everyone can attend to feel that energy that only football can give us.

Not to miss that it is vacation month; thousands of students from schools and universities are on break and taking advantage of each day to engage in their activities. Here in the Space City there are various options. Fortunately, we have plenty of green spaces where everyone can enjoy outdoor activities, but if enduring the June heat isn’t your thing, there is a long list of museums and other places where you can have fun.

If you don’t want to stay in the city, but you also don’t want to go too far or resources don’t allow for a long vacation, in the region there are many attractions you can access, even go and return the same day.

This summer will be unlike any for those who reside in the city, and returning to the World Cup topic, we know that thousands of people will arrive visiting from various parts of the country and the world.

We must give ourselves the opportunity to go out to activities, meet people, and share the beauty of our city with the visitors. We must show how immense Houston is through its ambassador and its multiculturalism.

Preliminary figures speak of half a million visitors who will arrive for the matches during the duration of the tournament.

So we have to start planning the whole month now, make the most of the free time, and live the experience of our lives. Perhaps some of us will not see the return of an event like this to our city. Therefore, let us not miss the opportunity to live it and have memories we can share with the next generations about this June that will be very special.

Let us seek the opportunity to celebrate, to learn, to have fun, and to live unique experiences that arrive in our city this month. Just keep in mind safety measures not only to take care of ourselves but everyone around us. So from now on we begin to live June and the experiences it will bring.

How do you plan for June?
